To honour the life of the late x̄á’isla Nation Hereditary Chief Sammy Robinson, who passed away February 11, 2025, the flags at CMSD82 Kitimat schools and the Board of Education Office will be flown at half-mast until the day of Chief Robinson’s funeral service.

Chief Robinson, whose title is hímas c̓esi, inherited his title from his brother, Tom Robinson, who belonged to the x̄á’isla Beaver Clan.  As the region’s oldest living master carver, he was dedicated to preserving and practicing the traditional art of carving cedar, silver, and gold — depicting x̄á’isla history and culture.  In 2013, hímas c̓esi received the BC Achievement First Nations Art Award for his skills and dedication to spreading the craft.  His work has been commissioned by collectors, governments, museums and companies from around the world.

Coast Mountains School District extends its sincerest condolences to the Haisla Nation and to the family of hímas c̓esi.  Our thoughts are with the Haisla community during this sorrowful and difficult time.
